Research shows that the presence of a Gay-Straight Alliance in a school creates a safer environment for LGBTQ students and their allies. By bringing awareness to the experiences of LGBTQ students in schools, GSAs create a community of students, faculty, and staff to combat bullying and harassment. These student clubs also improve students’ experiences by reducing the isolation often felt by LGBTQ students.
In partnership with other organizations committed to safe, inclusive schools for LGBTQ students and their allies, GSA Day recognizes the contributions of Gay-Straight Alliances in making schools a place where students are out, safe, and respected.
Held each year, Gay-Straight Alliances Day also highlights the community of Gay-Straight Alliances dedicated to combating bullying, homophobia, and transphobia in their schools. To participate in this nationwide Day-of-Action, plan an event with your GSA to share the work of your club.
