Neil Aasve is the Safe Schools Manager, leading the efforts for One Colorado to make all Colorado schools safe and inclusive for LGBTQ students. Neil joined the One Colorado team in August of 2016, after relocating from St. Paul, Minnesota. In Minnesota, Neil spent 3 years as the Director of Campus Organizing for Students United, the statewide student advocacy organization representing state university students at the state and federal level. In addition to his time with Students United, Neil spent two years (2010-2012) as a board member for the Bisexual Organizing Project, working to empower bisexual, fluid, pansexual, queer and non-labeled community to promote social justice.
Neil began work as a community organizer 2010 as an Intern with Minnesota Neighborhoods Organizing for Change (NOC), working to fight for racial and economic justice for low-income and minority communities. In this role, he helped launch the organization’s education reform campaign and became an active member involved in all organizing activities until 2013.
In 2011, Neil graduated from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a double major in Social Sciences and Social Studies Teaching. In 2015, he returned to Metro State to pursue a Master’s degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership. With his past experience and education, Neil is committed to a life-long career in fighting for equity and social justice for all; which he believes must begin with education.
